I’m not sleeping…this test has me so stressed out!

My clients often tell me about their trouble not sleeping. One very smart, accomplished professional woman client reported nightmares just thinking about defending her paper for certification. The defense was coming in a few months and already her body was reacting to fear.
The CDC reports that 50-70 million US adults have difficulty with sleep or wakefulness disorders1 which can be dangerous while working or driving. Long-term insufficiency sleeping, whether from technology 24/7, snoring, or worrying about a test can lead to increased risk factors for hypertension, diabetes, depression, and obesity, as well as from cancer, increased mortality, and reduced quality of life and productivity.1

Tapping or the Emotional Freedom Technique EFT works with the brain’s stress response in the amygdala, neutralizing the feelings associated with the limbic (survival) system Fight or Flight response.
This tapping video addresses her feelings of stress, fear, and anxiety about sitting for the board, honoring her feelings, and tapping to break the association with not surviving if she fails – because really, her physical body will survive regardless of the exam score. Oh sure, there might be disappointment (which can be tapped on), but there’s no firing squad or pushing her off a cliff, right? We worked in session to discover a past trauma from childhood where her mother and a teacher were very critical of her performance. This negativity and pressure to be perfect is now wired into her brain affecting her 40 years later, causing her to almost self-sabotage this career goal, her heart’s desire without her even knowing what is running in her nervous system. As a coach, it’s my job to help my clients identify, clear and replace with confidence how to recognize strengths, kick-ass abilities and create unshakable faith in the brilliance they embody. It was my job to help her recognize and believe just how ready she is to reach this goal. Value her years of preparation, competence, and confidence. Just like you – she is smart, has studied hard, and is able to do this. There’s no reason to keep believing the lie that she’s not good enough.
